"... I feel like I'm painting when I break, only the floor is my canvas...".

Name: G.I.JANE
From:
Crew: RAW ELEMENTZ CREW, JC
Age:

WHEN DID YOU GET INTO HIPHOP CULTURE?
Although I listened to all kinds of music as I was growing up, I really got into hip hop in 1997. I started writing a lot of my own poetry which turned into rap. In high school, I met more bboys who, like me, wanted to form a crew -- RAW ELEMENTZ CREW. We were always up to break in fundraisers, multicultural shows, and talent/fashion shows.

WHAT DOES HIP-HOP MEAN TO YOU?
To express thyself without shame, to represent your inner self, to embrace creativity, to make of it as how you make it, an outlet to profound emotions that cannot be suppressed --- that's what hip hop means to me.

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON BEING A B-GIRL?
There's always going to be people tellin' you how you should or shouldn't be as a bgirl; whatever. In my opinion, just do you... it's about keepin' it real. Being a bgirl is suppose to make me feel liberated, not captivated by other's demands and expectations. Bgirlin' motivates me to want the best for myself, to be the best I can be, and I'll always be thankful to God for giving me this beautiful gift of art and dance in my life.

WHO ARE YOUR FAVOURITE B-GIRLS (BREAKER, M.C., D.J. or GRAFF. ARTIST)?
Asia One, Rockafella, Abgirl, Peppa, Stephinit, Marlo, Lady Champ...

WHAT ARE THE DOWNS OF BEING A B-GIRL?
It's some bboys who get too fresh, and seem to cross the line of comfort too much that bothers me, but then again, one doesn't have to be a bgirl to know that, or a bboy to do that. I do my best to always put a lot of my time, perseverance, and a whole lot more in breakin', but unfortuhnately, for me I don't always get to because of work, school, priorities, and more work. But whenever I can get down, even if I am at work or in school, at the store, at parties, at jams, events, at the bus stop, in any public place, I will get down to break; no doubt about it!
